Red terracotta earthenware clay ~ grogged
Suggested firing temperature : 1080 - 1160°c
6kg + 10kg bags available for COLLECTION ONLY from the studio in Bristol
The earthy terracotta red colour will darken with higher firing temperatures and it looks lovely with even a plain transparent glaze on top .
Grogged terracotta clay is recommended for hand building larger pots where a smooth finish is not required. This clay is also great for throwing on the wheel but will create some friction on your hand as you throw so I would advise it for people who are not beginners on the wheel. It has a fine texture produced by additions of light grog which will prevent cracking and warping in your work. This clay is excellent for building sculptural pieces and for general hand-building and modelling. This grogged Terracotta fires to a rich red colour which darkens as the temperature increases
Available for COLLECTION ONLY from the studio in Bedminster, Bristol - as due to the weight I cannot currently post this item.
Before using, clay should be kneaded to ensure that the moisture content is even and to expel any air bubbles. Always avoid using the clay straight from the bag, as this can result in warping and cracking as there could be inconsistencies of softer and harder clay.
I would always advise to test how your clays and glazes interact with each other but I know this clay to work well with Duncan and Gare glazes.
